Following Ahmadinejad’s unprecedented congratulatory message to Obama and a suggestion by the parliamentary speaker that a “change in strategy” toward dealings with their country is needed, Iran seems to be backing away from its earlier demands for direct, unconditional talks with the U.S. regarding its nuclear program and resorting to accusations against the new administration. On Wednesday, Hossein Taeb, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, issued a speech mentioning the new American government’s change in tactics to “a soft attack” and – without missing a beat – speaking of “people” who wear “the mask of friendship, but with the objective of betrayal.”
