The Guardian reported today that a missile strike was launched into Pakistan and has killed at least 12 people, including alleged Taliban militants. The attacks have not been confirmed and No country has claimed responsibility although several news organizations, including the Guardian, have reported that the U.S. is responsible.
The missiles struck a house in Ghari Wam, a village in north west Pakistan close to the Afghan border. The target is rumored to have been Tailban commander Baitullah Mehsud, who is believed to have been behind the assassination of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
The alleged operation was carried out by unmanned drones. In the past, there have been reports of several similar attacks in Pakistan and often no government has claimed responsibility and/or confirmed them. Such operations have been condemned by Pakistan in the past as a “violation of its territory.”
